Message from the Vice Director

>Nobuo Kanai, M.D.,Ph.D. The development of pharmaceuticals and medical devices has advanced remarkably in recent times compared to the 19th century. However, there are still many unmet medical needs in the world; Dementia in the elderly being one of the most pressing, as there is no effective treatment yet.
To solve these problems, doctors and researchers will work together at the new Integrated Research Initiative for Living Well with Dementia. We will design and build the Tokyo Health and Geriatrics Database for collecting and managing big data and create an environment where it can be openly used by domestic and overseas research institutions and companies. We also plan to contribute to the creation of next-generation pharmaceuticals and medical/nursing care systems, such as AI nursing assistants or care robots. Our goal is to prevent and overcome major diseases and build a new social infrastructure that will enable us to live without any uncertainties in this 100-year life society.

Nobuo Kanai, M.D., Ph.D.
Vice Director of Integrated Research Initiative for Living Well with Dementia

Profile

The open database team will collect and manage information such as medical information and biological samples (tissues, cells, blood, urine, and DNA) from elderly people in Tokyo. We will continue to improve data collection and archiving, so that it can be used, not only by ourselves, but also by external research institutions and drug discovery companies. We will also contribute to the creation of next-generation medicines and medical/healthcare technologies for dementia.
