The medical center for dementia

Message from the Vice Director

>Kou Furuta, M.D. The medical center for dementia manages the organization of a clinical database on memory clinic. Started in December 1989, our memory clinic has a long history as an outpatient clinic for geriatric dementia (SD). At present, every year, about 800 to 1000 patients undergo detailed examinations for memory loss and dementia. The outpatient care team asks the patients about various indicators of dementia and performs detailed tests, such as neuropsychological tests and imaging tests, to arrive at a diagnosis.
This vast amount of clinical data has contributed to the development of the field of dementia. Our team will organize the database using past clinical data, and this will serve as a beneficial system contributing to future dementia research. In addition, we also provide programs for the introduction of social support to patients and their families.

Kou Furuta, M.D.
Vice Director of Integrated Research Initiative for Living Well with Dementia

Profile

The medical center for dementia will create a database using data collected from our Memory Clinic, including such details as neuropsychological tests, various indicators of dementia, imaging tests, blood tests, pathology tests, and other laboratory tests. We will also accumulate future data from our clinic, and all of this will form a foundation for our dementia research. The team will work towards the prevention and treatment of dementia, aiming to improve the quality of life of patients living with this disease.
